Fluxgate magnetometer is a high-precision sensor designed for measuring weak magnetic fields. Its core operation is based on the magnetic saturation principle of a high-permeability soft magnetic core.

This core is driven to periodic saturation by an alternating current in an excitation coil. When an external magnetic field is present, it creates an asymmetry in the core's saturation, generating an induced voltage in a pickup coil. This voltage contains even-order harmonics, with the second harmonic being proportional to the strength of the external DC magnetic field. By detecting this signal, the magnetometer can determine the exact magnitude and direction of the external field.
